The original Herbie film " The Love Bug " actually used EIGHT Herbies. They were adapted to perform particular special functions in the film.

Dean Jones played Jim Douglas, Herbie's racing driver In an interview on television Dean said the one of the Herbies was fitted with a Porsche 911 engine.
After filming he would drive Herbie to his home and greatly enjoyed watching the faces of other drivers as he burnt them off the traffic lights.
