An article by Mark Langdon of the Racing Post. Is this a very fair and unbiased assessment of Norwich City on the 1st October 2006 Pre Game ? Unfortunately it is not available on line and in the locally public interest we have reprinted the main article. It does appear to clearly focus on the situation today and if the issue becomes clouded during the next two weeks. it will be useful to refer an outsiders viewpoint.

TWO GAMES MAY NOT BE ENOUGH FOR WORTHINGTON

Nigel Worthington has been left in no uncertain terms that he has 2 games left to save his job and the Norwich boss desperately needs a victory against Burnley at Carrow Road today.

Most of the City faithful have had enough of Worthington even though he took the team to the Premiership as Champions of the second tier in 2004. Last season's 9th place finish was seen as not good enough and this campaign has been riddled with inconsistencies.

Norwich were hopeless at Plymouth last Saturday. Worthy called the performance "not good enough" and majority shareholders Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones responded to the 3-1 result by issuing a statement claiming the team lacked commitment.

According to the rumours there was plenty of passion on the coach journey home, with stories circulating that 2 players brawling on the bus. It does not bode well for team morale.

And the Canaries will be looking forward to the comforts of playing at home. They have won 3 of their 4 games in Norfolk, beating Preston, Barnsley and Luton, although they were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace last time out at Carrow Road.

It is on the road that Norwich have major problems and that is probably due to a lack of character and defensive ricks.

They have conceded 14 goals in 8 Championship games and it is tough for Robert Earnshaw to keep getting them out of trouble.

The Welsh hit-man has bagged 7 goals already this season and there is plenty of place and creativity in the squad with the likes of Paul McVeigh, Darren Huckerby and Lee Croft capable of conjuring up a bit of magic but the rear guard is all at sea.

Burnley have become more adventurous themselves this term but boss Steve Cotterill still prides himself on defensive organisation and it is that sort of attribute that has put him in the running to become the next West Brom manager.

The clarets have lost 3-2 against Southampton last time out but were leading 1-0 before skipper Wayne Thomas was sent off in the 16th minute and this is unlikely to be easy for Norwich.
